• Cites no response to LOD 
• Insists SLC actions caused loss of income, reputation and opportunity 

Former National Cricket Selection Committee Chair Pramodya Wickramasinghe has instructed his lawyers to institute legal action against Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) Transformation Committee, he told The Daily Morning Sports.

He said that as there had been no positive response to a Letter of Demand (LOD), which he had sent to the Transformation Committee over the arbitrary termination of his contract, he had advised his lawyers to institute Court action against the controlling body.

“I instructed my lawyers to file legal action against the SLC’s Transformation Committee,” the 54-year-old said.

“I had previously sent them (SLC) a LOD, to which there has not been any positive response, and it forced me to initiate legal proceedings against the SLC, as I had no other option as my arbitrary removal from the Selection Committee caused me a loss of income, reputation and opportunity.”

However, the ex-head of Selectors could not be drawn on the precise amount he intends to seek via his legal action against the sport’s local ruling body. 

Wickramasinghe, a member of the 1996 World Cup-winning outfit, had not been favourable to an ex-gracia payment reportedly made by the Transformation Committee to four other members of the panel headed by him.

Following recommendations from the Transformation Committee, Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage fired the panel led by Pramodya Wickramasinghe on 21 May which the Minister had formed on a two-year tenure in December 2025.

The other four members were Vinothen John, Indika de Saram, Tharanga Paranavithana and Rasanjali de Alwis, while SLC Transformation Committee Secretary Prakash Schaffter had acknowledged that an ex-gracia payment had been made to those other than the Chair.

He had stated that they had resorted to their actions on humane grounds rather than looking at it from a compensation perspective.

Reports at the time confirmed neither any formal reasons were adduced nor any due process followed when dismissing the Wickramasinghe headed Committee.

Wickramasinghe, who is set to turn 55 on Friday (14), had also served as Chair of Selectors in 2021, after which he was removed in the wake of the national team’s poor performance at the 2023 ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup held in India.

Ex-Sri Lanka pacer Kapila Wijegunawardena was named as the new Chair of a five-member Selection Committee to replace the panel headed by Wickramasinghe by the Transformation Committee.

Its other members are Amal Silva, Brendon Kuruppu, Waruna Waragoda and Vanessa de Silva.
