The Chairman of the National People’s Power (NPP)-controlled Kirinda Puhulwella Pradeshiya Sabha and four others have been released on personal bail after being arrested over an alleged unlawful confinement and harassment incident.
The five suspects were arrested on 22 October following a complaint by a retired female teacher and her son, an engineer, who alleged that they were locked inside a room at the Pradeshiya Sabha offices and subjected to physical and psychological harassment.
The Matara Magistrate’s Court ordered their release on personal bail after considering facts presented by the police. The allegations relate to a dispute over a wall allegedly obstructing access to the complainants’ property.
