- SLA Secretary General quits a month into post
The resignation of Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) Secretary General Madhawa Bandara Senarath has been accepted by SLA President Bimal Wijayasinghe, the latter confirmed to The Sunday Morning Sports on Thursday (16).
The SLA President stated that Senarath, when handing over his resignation letter, had mentioned that he was stepping down from his post due to personal reasons, having only been elected to office during the SLA election held in mid-March this year.
“Madhawa [Senarath] handed over his resignation letter to me a few days ago. However, as per protocol, I will be tabling his letter at the SLA Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday (21), where it will be officially accepted. He has said that he was quitting due to personal reasons, and now we need to think of replacing Madhawa with the consensus of the Executive Committee,” Wijayasinghe said.
According to informed sources, Senarath, a noted statistician, had opted to leave his post abruptly due to alleged unwarranted interference in his official work from a veteran sports administrator.
It is not, however, immediately clear who is tipped to replace Senarath as the new secretary general of SLA.
