The National Building Research Organisation(NBRO) has urged residents in mountainous and landslide-prone areas to remain alert for early warning signs of landslides due to ongoing heavy rainfall across the island.

The NBRO noted that the current weather conditions have increased the risk of landslides, slope failures and rockfalls.

Residents have been advised to clean drainage systems, divert rainwater properly and report any suspicious ground conditions to Grama Niladharis or relevant authorities immediately.

The NBRO also instructed residents to evacuate to safe locations without delay during emergencies and alert neighbouring communities.
