Five food stall owners at Peliyagoda Manning Market were fined Rs. 25,000 each by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday (12) after admitting to selling food without proper health safeguards.
Magistrate H.D.D.J. Premaratne imposed the fines following their guilty plea to violations related to improper storage, display, and sale of food.
The charges stem from a raid on March 5 by officials from the Peliyagoda Public Health Inspector’s Office, led by Medical Officer of Health Jayantha Ratnayake and supported by Public Health Inspectors Y.V.L. de Silva and D.P.S. Chinthaka Pathirana.
The inspection uncovered breaches of sanitary practices, leading to legal action against the stall owners.
