- To expand definition and identify varied forms of abuse
The Women and Child Affairs Ministry has announced plans to amend the existing Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, No. 34 of 2005.
Speaking to The Daily Morning, the Ministry's Legal Officer, Kumudu Perera stated that the proposed changes involve broadening the legal definition of domestic violence and expanding the scope of the Act to identify varied forms of abuse. She further added that the draft of the amended Act has been completed and is currently awaiting Cabinet of Ministers approval for the new changes.
