Plans for new Immigration Office in Jaffna approved by Cabinet

Plans for new Immigration Office in Jaffna approved by Cabinet

02 Apr 2025 | BY Staff Writer

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the establishment of a regional office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Jaffna to improve service accessibility for residents of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu.

This decision was taken as the nearest office is in Vavuniya, and given the high demand for passports in the region, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake proposed the new office during the Jaffna District Coordination Committee meeting on 31 January.

The office, set to open within the Jaffna District Secretariat premises this month, was approved following a proposal by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala.
