The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court (MC) rejected the request made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to cancel the bail granted to Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake.
According to reports, the CIABOC requested to have him remanded again in connection with financial irregularities he allegedly committed during his tenure as a member of the Uva Provincial Council in 2016.
The Commission also alleged that the suspect interfered with the ongoing investigations by requesting former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to hold a press conference.
Accordingly, the Court rejected the CIABOC’s request, citing lack of evidence to support this claim.
