The Colombo–Kandy main road is completely closed at Ganethenna, Kadugannawa, following a fatal landslide that struck a roadside shop.

The incident confirmed one death, hospitalised four people, and left several trapped.

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) is conducting rescue operations, having already saved three people.

Police have halted all vehicular movement on the road as a precautionary measure, warning that ongoing heavy rainfall increases the risk of further landslides and rockfalls. 

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes until the road reopens.
