The Meenagaya Express train from Batticaloa to Colombo derailed in Gal-Oya this morning (20) after colliding with a herd of elephants, killing five.

Train services on the Batticaloa route have been temporarily restricted, and the Pulathisi train has been cancelled. 

Efforts are underway to restore operations, and passengers are advised to stay updated on service changes.
