Temperatures are expected to reach 39°C to 45°C in several districts, with the Department of Meteorology warning that the heat level requires public attention.

The prolonged dry spell has affected Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Monaragala, while parts of Jaffna, Ampara and Hambantota are also experiencing drought conditions.

Several small tanks have dried up after some areas went without rain for nearly four months, affecting communities, livestock and crops.
