The main Opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), claimed that the Government has failed to maintain the transparency that it promised, and that this is a concerning situation.

This statement was made by SJB Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman while discussing the refusal to disclose information about the officials attached to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Addressing a press briefing held yesterday (20), Rahman opined: “More than anyone else, the present Government spoke about transparency, the importance of a new political culture and social justice. The refusal to provide details about the media unit personnel operating under the President shows how the Government has declined during the past seven months.”

“As far as I know, around 90 persons are working in the PMD. Perhaps that is why there is an unwillingness to provide (the said) information,” he further said, adding that former leaders including former President Ranil Wickremesinghe have disclosed such information.
