Ajith Prasanna sentenced to six months' imprisonment for contempt of court

08 Jun 2023 | Lahiru Doloswala

The Court of Appeal (CA) today 8 June handed down a six-month rigorous imprisonment sentence to Retired Major Ajith Prasanna after he pleaded guilty to charges of contempt of court.

As per the court order, the prison term will begin once he completes the four-year sentence he is serving.

It is worth noting that in January 2023, Prasanna was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court (SC).

The charges against him are based on statements he made on YouTube in December 2019, in which he criticized the decisions made by specific magistrates.

Acknowledging his guilt in the offense of contempt of court, he assured the court that he would abstain from making similar comments in the future.
