The Sri Lankan Boxing Association issued their long-term development plans which contain several key points, strategies to increase the level of their boxers, to compete in more events and build up new platforms from the youngest age groups.

Their new President Anuruddha Bandara sent their team to several competitions and arranged national competitions for all age groups since he was elected a few months ago. 

Their four-year strategy introduces the exact plans in all areas on how to reach the goals and the benefits of their program could be one of the highlights in Sri Lanka. 

The main objective in their planning book is the year of 2028 which is the end of this new Olympic cycle.

Sri Lanka sent a record number of 18 boxers to the ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates where the country earned their first medals as well. 

Their next event will be the Layton Cup in Sri Lanka this month and the country is planning to host its National Elite Championships in December. 

The Sri Lankans are planning to send a full team for the very first time to the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships to Amman, Jordan which will be starting on 28 November. 

The Sri Lankan Boxing Association President has strong plans for the future to develop the country’s boxing life and all aspects including their coaching and refereeing background. 

The Sri Lankans are planning to bid to host the 2025 edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Colombo to develop their grassroots and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games is also in their focus. 

The 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games is their main target where the Sri Lankans are planning to get a quota, first time in the sport after the Beijing 2008 edition when Anuruddha Rathnayake competed for the South Asian country. 

Sri Lanka has an amazing talent, Umayanga Mihiran, who almost qualified for the Paris Olympics despite his age of 20. 

He performed remarkably in the second World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand where he defeated two highly qualified boxers and proved his high level of technical skills.
