Over 5,200 affected as adverse weather damages homes across Sri Lanka

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) stated 5,267 people from 1,582 families have been affected by the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the island.


According to the DMC, impacts have been reported across 66 Divisional Secretariat Divisions, with heavy rains and unstable weather affecting multiple districts.


The agency further reported that 200 houses have been partially damaged, while one house in Ratnapura was completely destroyed.


The Kalutara District recorded the highest number of partially damaged homes with 90 houses affected, followed by Batticaloa and Gampaha with 25 houses each, Ratnapura with 22, and Galle with 14.


Additional damage was reported in Colombo and Mannar with five houses each, while Monaragala and Jaffna recorded four damaged houses apiece. 


The lowest levels of impact were seen in Hambantota, Anuradhapura and Trincomalee, where two houses each sustained damage.
