The stance of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in relation to the election of officebearers to the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) for the 2026–’30 term will be conveyed to NOCSL President Suresh Subramaniam by tomorrow (12) at the latest.
Subramaniam said both the IOC and OCA were set to officially announce their decision connected to the delayed election to the NOCSL, with its Executive Committee having already completed its four-year term of office on 27 December 2025.
According to Subramaniam, who is currently in Dubai, UAE for medical treatment, the annual election to the Olympic House has been pushed back due to a forensic audit conducted by a private team of chartered accountants.
The audit was in relation to the 10-year period from 2014–’24 and was funded by the global body.
The NOCSL President, who is unlikely to run for office again following an eight-year tenure, added that NOCSL General Manager Lal Wickrematunge had confirmed to him that the ongoing forensic audit could end by late this month and expressed optimism that the election could be staged before 31 March.
