The report of the Special Presidential Investigation Committee appointed to probe alleged fraud, corruption and irregularities at the SriLankan Airlines and the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (AASSL) is nearing completion, according to the Civil Aviation Ministry.

Speaking to The Daily Morning, Deputy subject Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku said that the Committee was carrying out a comprehensive investigation into alleged fraud and irregularities that had taken place over the years, including matters linked to Airbus transactions. “It is a rather complex institution, so the investigation is taking some time. Their final report is about to be completed now,” he said.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently appointed the said Committee to probe alleged incidents of fraud, corruption and irregularities at the SriLankan Airlines Limited and the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited. The Committee has been tasked with investigating alleged offences committed between 2010 and last year (2025), including the abuse of power and unlawful privileges by the Board of Directors and the senior management of SriLankan Airlines, irregularities in service contracts and recruitment procedures, aviation security lapses, and discrepancies linked to duty-free shop transactions and overseas sales agents. The probe also covers corruption and irregularities related to the procurement, leasing or acquisition of aircraft, as well as goods and services exceeding Rs. 10 million, during the period from 2000 to 2025.
