India has handed over another consignment of Bailey bridges to Sri Lanka as part of its $ 450 million reconstruction and rehabilitation assistance package launched following Cyclone Ditwah.

The latest consignment, weighing around 251 MT, was handed over on Thursday (6) by Indian Deputy High Commissioner Maitrey Kulkarni to Deputy Minister of Cooperative Development Upali Samarasinghe.

The bridges will be installed by an Indian Army Engineer Task Force at locations identified by the Road Development Authority and provincial road development authorities.

India has already installed eight Bailey bridges at seven locations across Sri Lanka, helping restore transport links in areas affected by the cyclone.

The Indian High Commission said that the next phase of assistance would include the construction of permanent bridges at selected locations, aimed at improving road connectivity and strengthening disaster-resilient infrastructure.
