The Cabinet of Ministers has agreed to halt two future wind power projects on Mannar Island following a directive from the President.

The decision was made in response to concerns forwarded by the public regarding environmental and social issues caused by the projects.

The two projects affected are the 20 megawatt Windscape Mannar (Pvt) Ltd and the 50 megawatt Hayleys Fentons projects, which were planned to commence operations in December 2025 and December 2026 respectively .

The President instructed relevant authorities not to implement the projects without the consent of the people living in Mannar.
