A recent survey conducted by an organization representing transgender sex workers has revealed that between 25% and 30% of transgender sex workers in the country are addicted to drugs.

The organization noted that many transgender individuals choose sex work after being sidelined by their families and excluded from their homes due to their gender identity. 

This perceived occupational freedom contributes to the addiction of narcotics, including crystal methamphetamine (ice), heroin, and cannabis.

The organization has formally reported incidents of abuse to Police Headquarters, including, Physical abuse and social harassment and false drug-related charges and illegal detention following police arrests.

Transgender individuals face difficulties during hospitalization emergencies due to a lack of awareness among authorities regarding their gender identity. 

The organization hopes a forthcoming survey report will help government institutions, including the police, address these issues.
