The six new companies formed through the dissolution of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) officially commenced operations today (09), marking the end of the Board’s tenure as of midnight yesterday (9).
This restructuring involved the repeal of the Ceylon Electricity Board Act No. 17 of 1969, resulting in the legal abolition of the CEB as a corporate entity.
Responsibilities for electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and system operations have now been transferred to the six successor companies, as announced in a recent gazette notification by the Minister of Energy.
The newly established companies are:
Lanka Electricity Generation Lanka (Private) Limited
National Transmission Network Service Provider (Private) Limited
National System Operator (Private) Limited
Electricity Distribution Lanka (Private) Limited
Employees Fund (Private) Limited
Energy Ventures Lanka (Private) Limited
Additionally, new General Managers have been appointed for three of these entities:
Lanka Electricity Generation Lanka (Private) Limited – Eng. N. G. Saliya Panditharatne
National Transmission Network Service Provider (Private) Limited – Eng. N. S. Wettasinghe
Electricity Distribution Lanka (Private) Limited – Eng. K. S. I. Kumara
All operational duties previously managed by the CEB will now be handled by these successor companies, marking a significant shift in the country’s electricity sector.
