The Government last Saturday (18) incinerated 251 kg of Heroin and 38 kg of Methamphetamine, commonly referred to as Ice, at a special facility built by the Special Task Force (STF) in Wanathawilluwa.

The special facility with its high powered incinerator was built to address long-term issues with the disposal of large volumes of narcotics which the police apprehend each year from counter narcotics operations.

Last Saturday, Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles and Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Thennakoon joined other senior law enforcement officers at the inaugural occasion when the narcotics stockpile was destroyed.

The destruction of the narcotics was carried out under the supervision of the Magistrate of Puttalam, and with technical assistance from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB), where a temperature between 800-1200 Celsius was used to incinerate the drugs.
