A man was arrested for allegedly verbally abusing several police officers and obstructing them while they were performing security duties in connection with the Kandy Esala Perahera, police said.

The incident occurred yesterday morning (23) near the main entrance to the Sri Dalada Maligawa, where police officers had been deployed for security duties.

According to police, the suspect allegedly used abusive language towards the officers and behaved in a disorderly manner, obstructing them from carrying out their official duties.

Police subsequently arrested the suspect in connection with the incident.

Legal action is expected to be taken against the suspect, police added.
