Sri Lanka Railways to import 10,000 rail tracks to upgrade coastal line

Sri Lanka Railways has announced plans to import 10,000 new rail tracks to replace deteriorating sections along the Coastal Railway Line.

The shipment is expected to arrive next month.

Currently, speed restrictions between Panadura and Fort are causing delays, due to damaged tracks. Once the new rails are installed, approximately 70% of these restrictions are projected to be lifted by December.

Tenders for renovating seven railway bridges along the Coastal Line will be awarded next month.

The bridges scheduled for renovation include those at Kompannavidiya, Wellawatte, Pinwatta, Aluthgama, Induruwa, Gintota, Dodanduwa, and Hikkaduwa, aiming to enhance safety and efficiency on the route.
