The Cabinet of Ministers has approved submitting the Import and Export (Control) Regulations No. 08 of 2025 to Parliament for its concurrence.

The regulations were published in a gazette dated 15 October 2025 and formalise a Cabinet decision from 13 October 2025.

The decision allows the import of GR eleven / Ponni Samba rice similar to Keeri Samba (category code 1006.30.29) without requiring import control licences. 

The proposal was furnished by the President in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Plan Implementation, and Economic Development.
