A 30-year-old male wild elephant was killed yesterday (9) near Karadipuwal, between Puttalam and Eluwankulama Railway Stations, by a goods train transporting limestone to the Palaviya cement factory.
The railway line is exclusively used for limestone transport, officials confirmed.
Wildlife officers reported that the elephant's carcass was found on the tracks.
