The Central Environment Authority (CEA) announced that from April 1, 2026, all water bottles must carry the SLS Product Certification Mark, following a new directive by the Consumer Affairs Authority to ensure public safety, especially for children.
According to the CEA, the Reusable plastic bottles for beverages must comply with SLS 1616 standards and Infant feeding bottles must meet SLS 1306 specifications.
Under the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Act No. 9 of 2003, locally manufactured bottles must display the SLS mark, while imported bottles must be approved by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI).
The CEA warned that selling, manufacturing, or importing non-compliant bottles will be strictly prohibited.
