Dr. Rukshan Bellana, Deputy Director of the National Hospital in Colombo, yesterday warned of a potential political conspiracy to undermine the country’s health sector in the near future.

Dr. Bellana, who was in multiple disputes with medical trade unions in the past, stated that certain groups are attempting to recruit economically disadvantaged employees to support this agenda.

He made these remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW) held at the United National Party (UNP) Headquarters, Sirikotha.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Joint Health Services Union, Ven. Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera, has announced that hospital junior staff will go on strike the day after tomorrow (9) based on several demands.
