Construction of the Kadawatha-Mirigama section of the Central Expressway is set to resume tomorrow (17) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The project, which was halted in mid-2022 due to the economic crisis, has been revived with a $500 million loan from China’s Exim Bank.
According to the Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Prasanna Gunasena, the 37-kilometer section is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
Work will also begin on the Kadawatha Interchange Center and the first 500 meters of the expressway, funded by the Sri Lankan government at a cost of Rs. 8.6 billion.
