Around 35 minor land instability incidents have been reported due to heavy rainfall over the past few days, according to the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO).

NBRO Senior Geologist Dr. Imaya Ariyaratne noted that more than 300 mm of rain has been recorded over the past three days.

She warned that continued heavy rainfall could lead to landslides, rockfalls, subsidence and slope failures.

Fourteen districts are currently at risk of landslides, with Red Warnings issued for six districts. Residents in high-risk areas who have been instructed to evacuate have been urged to move to safe locations.
