The Cabinet has approved constructing 50 MW of battery storage systems to integrate with existing solar power plants.

This forms part of the 300 MW long-term battery storage plan to enhance grid flexibility and optimise renewable energy use.

The project will be implemented through competitive bidding and overseen by the National System Operator (Private) Ltd under the Ceylon Electricity Board.

The proposal was presented by the Minister of Power.
