The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) confirmed its trade union action will continue today(18) after a discussion with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake failed to yield a satisfactory solution to their demands.

The GMOA began the strike yesterday(17) in protest against unresolved issues in the health service and doctor concerns not addressed in the 2026 Budget. 

Doctors are limiting selected services, including prescribing external pharmacy medicines and recommending external laboratory tests.

Following the Presidential Secretariat meeting, GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa stated President Dissanayake would discuss their proposals further. 

The GMOA will convene emergency meetings to decide its future course of action.
