During his state visit to Sri Lanka, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the primary focus of addressing visa issues faced by Maldivians living in Sri Lanka. He expressed confidence that a permanent solution will be reached soon.

President Muizzu met with members of the Maldivian diaspora in Sri Lanka yesterday, revealing that significant efforts have been made over the past two years to resolve these visa concerns, with some progress already achieved.

He stated, “The Sri Lankan government is placing high priority on finding a permanent resolution. Our High Commissioner is working closely with the Foreign Ministry on this matter.”

The President also shared that he received assurances from the Sri Lankan President that the longstanding issues, which arose several years ago, are being actively addressed. 

He added, “We are working with relevant Sri Lankan authorities to finalize arrangements, and official discussions on this matter are ongoing during the current State visit.”
