An ‘Amber’ advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology for severe lightning in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-Western, Northern, North-Central and Southern provinces.

The advisory will remain in effect until 1.00 a.m. tomorrow (9).

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely in several places, with temporary localised strong winds possible during thundershowers.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by lightning activity.
