The Matara Division Crimes Bureau arrested 8 suspects involved in a shooting that killed one person and injured two others in the Goviyapana area in Midigama yesterday (3).

The suspects arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at a person in a fish market in the Goviyapana area on 19 September, and then fled the scene.

The arrested suspects, aged between 20 and 42, are residents of Ahangama, Weligama, and Wellawaya.

At the time of the arrest, the three-wheeler used to transport the weapon after the crime was also seized by police.

Rs. 1,542,000, which was also found on one of the suspects, suspected to be proceeds from heroin trafficking, was taken into custody. The said suspect appeared to be a close associate of an individual involved in organised crime and drug trafficking from abroad.

Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Matara Division Crimes Bureau.
