Sri Lanka's Ministry of Justice is set to roll out child witness rooms in 50 courts nationwide, a major step toward a more child-friendly justice system.
The first facility was opened at the Kandy High Court by Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara.
The new rooms use modern audio-visual technology, allowing children to testify from a separate location to prevent trauma.
This initiative is part of the Child Protection and Justice Bill, which also includes legal provisions to ban corporal punishment, a move confirmed by Minister Nanayakkara as aligning with international child rights standards.
The Ministry plans to expand these facilities across the country.
