Arpico Insurance PLC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Principal Officer Dr. Kelum Senanayake, a notable personality in the Sri Lankan Life Insurance industry, has been appointed as an Executive, Non-Independent Director of the Company, following the endorsement from the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Senanayake reigned at Arpico Insurance PLC as its CEO in March 2021 and has over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry. He also has the privilege of being the first and only CEO in the Sri Lankan Insurance industry to hold the coveted Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) status, achieved in Sri Lanka in an impressive 133 days.
In addition to being the Executive Director / Chief Executive Officer / Principal Officer of Arpico Insurance PLC, he also serves on the Boards of Richard Peiris Distributors and Richard Peiris Finance Company as a Director.
He began his career in 1982 at Mercantile Credit Ltd, the principal agent for National Insurance Corporation and moved to Union Assurance PLC where he rose to the rank of Assistant General Manager during a career spanning over 27 years with the company. Thereafter, subsequently he joined AIA Insurance Lanka as General Manager – Operations, where he rose to the rank of Director – Operations, during a stint spanning over a decade.

Throughout his career, he has forged strong relationships with global reinsurers such as Munich Re, Hannover Re and Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) and possesses a high level of both strategic and operational expertise, being actively involved for decades in developing and managing processes that govern new business underwriting, policyholder servicing, claims, group life underwriting, reinsurance, contact centers, customer experience and various other key areas.
A product of Ananda College, Colombo, Dr. Senanayake holds a Diploma in Business Management from Worldview Institute and an MBA from the University of Western Sydney, Australia and was conferred with a Doctor of Business Administration by the London University of Peace, in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the insurance industry. Having received Insurance training in the UK, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, India and South Africa, he is also a respected trainer in the arena who has trained over 20,000 insurance professionals during his career.
