The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) continues to face the many misconceptions it has been facing since the two insurrections led by the party in the 1970s and the late 1980s.
A retired military officer, who is currently actively involved with the JVP, had recently referred to the misinformation against the party with regard to how it had acted during its insurrections.
Retired Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne had responded to a social media post by political activist Victor Ivan.
Seneviratne had noted during a JVP meeting in Galle that even his mother had been misled into believing the propaganda carried out against the JVP and she had asked him if he was not ashamed to work with the party.
He had said the JVP was rectifying its past mistakes and as a partner of the JVP-led National People’s Power (NPP), he believed that it was the only party that was honestly committed to building the country.
Seneviratne had also noted that the country could be revived after a change in the present political culture led by a corrupt-free movement like the NPP.
