Cabinet has approved the procurement and installation of 12 automated passenger clearance gates at Bandaranaike International Airport to streamline passenger clearance.

The approval includes four gates previously approved in 2025, with eight additional gates to be installed.

The automated facility, currently available only to Sri Lankan nationals, is planned to be expanded to foreign nationals alongside the introduction of the e-passport system in 2027.
