Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Rear Admiral Banagoda to the position, effective from 16 August, 2024.

The appointment letter was officially handed over to Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda yesterday (26) at the Navy Headquarters by Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Commander of the Navy.

He is an alumnus of St. Thomas' College, Bandarawela, and a decorated officer, Banagoda has held key positions throughout his career, including Commander of the Eastern Naval Area. 

He was honored with the Rana Sura Padakkama for bravery and the Uttama Seva Padakkama for his dedicated service.
