Veteran actress Damayanthi Fonseka had recently faced an unpleasant incident at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo when someone had opened her handbag and stolen her cash, bank cards, and National Identity Card.

The incident had reportedly taken place when Fonseka was in a crowded elevator on her way to consult a doctor at the hospital. Due to the congestion in the elevator, it is believed that a thief had discreetly accessed her handbag and removed the valuables without her knowledge.

Fonseka is the sister of late actress Malini Fonseka and the wife of renowned film director Prasanna Vithanage.

Fonseka had told the media that it was a dangerous trend if people were being robbed at a place like the National Hospital. She had further noted that in some instances, people pawned or sold their jewellery and other assets to raise monies for treatment for their loved ones, and that the hospital authorities had a responsibility to ensure that people’s money was secure within the hospital premises.
