The Navy, together with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, conducted coordinated operations across island waters from April 1 to 15 to curb illegal fishing activities.

According to the Navy, 41 individuals were apprehended during the operations, while 11 dinghies and two tractors used for illicit activities were seized.

The raids covered several coastal and lagoon areas, including Nandikadal Lagoon, Elephant Island, and locations in Trincomalee, Jaffna, and Puttalam.

Authorities also recovered items such as sea cucumbers, commercial explosives, and banned fishing gear. The suspects and seized equipment have been handed over to relevant authorities for further legal action.
