The 2023 National and Junior National Short Course Swimming Championships concluded on 30 December at the Hillwood College Kandy Swimming Pool.
Killer Whale Aquatics secured substantial leads of over 100 points in both the national men’s and women’s categories to secure both titles.
The Swimming Association of Maldives claimed the men’s runners-up position, while Asian International School finished second in the women’s category. Ananda College, Colombo clinched the Junior Boys’ Championship, and Lyceum International School Gampaha emerged victorious in the Junior Girls’ Championship.
Hiruki De Silva and Kyle Abeysinghe of Killer Whale Aquatics were crowned national individual champions, each winning five golds in their respective events. P.R. Vandani Fernando from Killer Whale became the Junior Girls’ champion, and M. M. Ekneligoda from Ananda College earned the Junior National Best Swimmer title for setting three new records in the 50 m butterfly, and the 50 m and 100 m backstroke events.
There were five new individual records and two relay records, with six records set by the Junior Boys.
Junior Champion M. M. Ekneligoda set the new record in the 50 m butterfly, achieving a time of 26.80 seconds. He also claimed records in the 50 m and 100 m backstroke events with times of 27.63 seconds and 1.00.67 seconds, respectively.
Lithum De Silva from Gateway College set a new record in the Junior Boys’ 800 m freestyle event, completing it with a time of 9.30.93.
A.N.N. Dabare from Ananda College broke the Boys’ 100 m breaststroke with a time of 1.11.79 seconds.
The relay records were established by Ananda College in the Under-15 4x50 m medley relay while Killer Whale Aquatics clocked a new record in the men’s 4x50 m medley relay.
