Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena told Parliament that fatal road accidents rose to 2,583 in 2025, up from 2,403 the previous year. 

He highlighted that pedestrians and motorcyclists remain the primary victims, despite an overall decrease in the total number of road accidents recorded.
