Sri Lanka and Thailand have concluded negotiations on a Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation and an Agreement on the Employment of Sri Lankan Workers in Thailand.

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok stated the draft texts were finalised following virtual discussions between relevant authorities of both countries.

The documents will be submitted for government approval before signing, expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Thailand has approved recruiting 10,000 Sri Lankan workers under a pilot project to address labour shortages.

The Sri Lankan delegation was led by Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, while the Thai side was led by Assistant Permanent Secretary Sakdinath Sonthisakyothin.
