Suspected sabotage behind recent bomb scares on Indian flights, says Cabinet Spokesman

29 Oct 2024

Cabinet Spokesman Vijitha Herath announced that recent bomb threats on Indian flights are suspected attempts at sabotage, with investigations underway by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the State Intelligence Service (SIS).

The National Security Council is set to meet today to discuss the ongoing situation.

Over the past 14 days, more than 350 flights operated by Indian carriers have received hoax bomb threats, with the latest incident involving a Sri Lankan-bound flight that made an emergency landing at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

This marks the third such occurrence in recent days, following similar threats on 19 and 24 October that forced two Vistara flights from Mumbai to divert.
