Sri Lanka thrashed hapless Japan by 203 runs in their opening game of the U19 Cricket World Cup in Windhoek, Namibia.

Sri Lanka began their ICC U19 World Cup 2026 campaign with a record-breaking 203-run victory over Japan in Windhoek. 

Opting to bat, Sri Lanka posted a massive 387/4, headlined by a historic 328-run opening stand. 

Viran Chamuditha scripted history with 192 runs, the highest individual score in tournament history, while Dimantha Mahavithana struck a composed 115. 

In response, Japan showed incredible resilience despite the daunting target. Hugo Tani-Kelly anchored the innings with a valiant unbeaten 101 off 162 balls, ensuring Japan batted through their 50 overs to finish at 184/8.
