The Government has announced a major flood-mitigation initiative in Kolonnawa, with an investment of over Rs. 10 billion aimed at providing a permanent solution to the area’s recurring flood problems.

Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara stated that the project, launched today, is expected to be completed by 2029. The plan includes widening and upgrading key canal networks such as Dahamwela, Passanna, Selalihini Mawatha, and Dandutota, along with renovating 50 small bridges and culverts.

Additionally, seven water retention tanks will be constructed, along with two new pumping stations, to improve water management. The project also features the development of a walking path and a public park to enhance community facilities and flood resilience.

This comprehensive initiative reflects a long-term commitment to safeguarding Kolonnawa residents from flood risks while improving urban infrastructure and community well-being.
