The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for severe lightning today (15).

The warning is in effect until 11.00 p.m., covering Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces, and Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala districts.

Thundershowers with severe lightning are likely after 1.00 p.m., with temporary strong winds expected.

The public has been urged to take precautions to minimise damage.
