The main Opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) expressed concerns about illegal rackets and organised crimes, alleging that the Government’s inaction has contributed to these social issues.
Speaking at a press briefing held yesterday (23), SJB National Organiser and Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake claimed that this year is a year in which racketeers were ‘encouraged’.
“The incident where 323 containers were released from the Colombo Port without any inspection caused controversy. Serious allegations were levelled against the Government in that regard. However, the Government did not take steps to implement the recommendations of the committee that was appointed to investigate this incident. There are allegations that goods belonging to racketeers and goods that could impact national security were among the 323 containers,” he claimed, adding that releasing these containers was tantamount to releasing racketeers.
